A little bit about me and how I got here

Hi!  You probably got here because I told you to on facebook. I mean, why not, it's the first day of semester two, they have just upgraded the speed and data allowance at uni and while waiting for your torrents, you're on facebook and now you're here!
To you, I might be just some girl who posts photos of yummy looking food and make people hungry. Sorry. There is a solution to that; make it yourself! This is what this blog is going to be about... I find a recipe, I make it, I take photos then I write about it!

The idea of a food blog was first suggested to me on 23 December 2011 (yep I know. I'm one for recording things). My response was "lol. but I have nothing to say." But people ask me for recipes, tips, I go to cafes and restaurants and tell my friends about it. Flo began her travelling blog a couple of days ago and I thought, hey her font looks cool, why not do one myself? Then I can write about the really good cafe I went to yesterday and how to make cheesecake without a bain marie!
So this first post I dedicate to everyone who encouraged me to start this. Shuupii- "Elisa you amazing gal. You should start a food blog with pikchurs, recipes and other yummies. I'd go on it everyday for my daily dose of food porn." Mochacoco- "Do you have a food blog? If not, you should." Lauren and Calci for having sampled a lot of what I make and jt, for being the first to suggest a food blog to me (you probably don't remember :P) I hope it lives up to all of your expectations :D

What I do: I am a civil engineering student. I love it. It is nerdy, it is challenging, it allows me to be artistic and it makes me feel smart when people ask me what I study. "Elisa, how do you have so much time to cook, does engineering not consume your life?" asked a Lyall boy. It would, but due to health reasons, I study part time, which means I have less than 10 hours of uni a week... So I fill up my days by doing ballet, Student Life committments, baking, Skyping, and general social butterflying.

Cooking and baking: My 'mommy', Jojo, noticed that I bake a lot more often than I used to last year, is it because of this new circumstance? she asked with suggestive eyebrows. And some might say that I am trying to earn wife points. Ha. But really, I just enjoy baking and experimenting; it's science and art that is greatly rewarding. I want to be one of those aunties/ grandmas who always have home baking stored in a tin and a dish named after them. I thank my parents for letting me make use of the oven (since it's not a very asian thing to use an oven). Sometimes I bake to de stress at 11pm during study periods. But I don't eat it all! I sample one or two cookies with Landak to make sure it is good enough to give the rest to friends, church, events, neighbours... This is also because my family doesn't really eat sweet snacks and radiotheraphy side effect dictates that I stay away from sugar. So I usually need hungry volunteers after I finish baking!
I am using it to reflect God's love and to serve Him too.

Besides cooking and baking? I have mentioned that I do ballet. I love how beautiful and elegant and artistic it is. One of my passions would be art- impressionism, realism, surrealism, Monet, Hopper, Magritte. When I have spare time, I paint... I find it so therapeutic. I also do quite a bit of reading and writing. When I was small, I used to fill out countless exercise books with stories, but unfortunately I don't write as often as I'd like now. Oh and must not forget my curious obsession with nautical things!

And to conclude, I like making cheesecake most of all. Seriously, someone invite me to a tea party and I will make you an oreo/ coconut caramel/ chocolate chip or white chocolate passionfruit one. I am determined to perfect a baked cheesecake.

Signed,
Elisa
